Q: Ford Taurus?
I’m considering buying a 2001 Ford Taurus (4-door SES, flex fuel). Does anyone own/used to own this car? What has been your experience?

A: The Taurus is a good solid car. They had a large number of engine and transmission failures in the early to late 90s. Most of those problems have been corrected by the time 01 came around. The Taurus was also a mainline fleet vehicle for the rental car agencies that bought stripped down models leading to many people thinking ‘cheap rental’ whenever they see a Taurus. However, this can be very advantageous to you. You will be able to buy an excellent car for very little money. The bad public opinion led to punishing rates of depreciation. My personal experiences have been that the Ford cars are better built than GM products but had a bad transmission design through the 90s that killed resale value. Get it inspected by an independant mechanic of your choice and if it gets a clean bill of health and is a fair price go for it! For pricing information the best site is Edmunds.com. Also, be sure to pay cash for the car. Never borrow money to purchase a depreciating asset!

Accord,Camry,Altima are all decent cars but with much higher prices and bigger bills when they break. They are also alot less comfortable to sit in than a Taurus. Camry is cramped inside. Accord has wierd driving ergonomics and a back seat that leans back too far…very uncomfortable. In 01 Nissan was going broke and the Altima was barely above the Sentra in the quality dept. Nissan has since rebounded with good management now, but you dont want one that is from that vintage.

Q: ford taurus?
what are the relay schematics for a 2000 ford taurus?

A: You can find a great one in Chiltons, pick one up for 20 bucks at an auto parts store.

Q: My Ford Taurus starting to delay acceleration when I step on the gas about 4 seconds then it shoots forward?
(Ford Taurus) My car is starting to delay acceleration when I step on the gas. The delay is about 3 to 4 seconds then is shoots forward and catches up to speed. This happens any time I stop and step on the gas. It’s so bad that I don’t step on my gas to park because I don’t want my car to shoot forward and hit the car in front of me.
Could it be my Catalytic Converter?

A: it could be the fuel filter but it sounds more like the transmission fluid is low or the transmission filter needs changing.

Q: I have a 97 ford taurus. One of my wrench’s hit the positive battery terminal and now the car wont start?
I was replacing the thermostat on my 97 ford taurus. One of my wrench’s hit my positive battery terminal. Resulting in alot of sparks. Now my car will crank but won’t turn over. What could possibly be the problem?

A: Crank=”To Turn Over!” In the main Fuse/Relay Box by the Battery Check the Main Fuse & Ingnition Fuses, Check to see if you Burned Out the Starter Solenoid. Check to see if you shorted out the Fueible Link to the Alternator!

Q: How many miles would a Ford Taurus be expected to last?
I have been looking to pay cash for a second car to use for commuting, and was seriously considering a Ford Taurus.

I looked at several in including a 98,99, and 02.

The 98 has the least miles with 69k, the 99k has 100k and the 98 has 80k. However the 99 has only been a company vehicle and has a very well maintained maintenance record.

How can I determine which, if any of these is a good buy?

A: The best buy is the car that is in the best mechanical condition that has the lowest price. Mileage is irrelevant. Once you get into high mileage cars, the maintenance costs will all be the same. They will all need occasional repairs, none of them any less than the other.

So buy the car that is the cheapest, that has the best maintenance record and is in the best physical condition.

Q: How do you replace a 2002 Ford Taurus SE front headlight lightbulb?
How do you replace a 2002 Ford Taurus SE front headlight lightbulb? I have 9007 series lightbulbs to put in and need to know how you get inside the front headlamp. Its a labyrinth inside the front of this car.. Thanks!

A: It’ll only cost you $10. to have a garage do it.

Q: How much for a ford taurus 2000 transmission?
i was wondering how much it cost to put a new transmission in a ford taurus se 2000 .
plus manufactory.

A: This is a trouble-prone transmission, so if you plan to keep the car, a junkyard replacment isn’t the best idea.

The Genuine Ford rebuilts are the best and offer the best warranty 3yrs/36K miles. But they’re also the most expensive–retail price around $2,200 PLUS installation.

Your best bet is to find a reputable local transmission shop–not one of those chain rebuilders. Look to see if they are a member of ATRA (Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association). If they give you an ATRA warranty, it will be honored by any other member shop. These guys tend to know transmissions better than the chain operations.

The chains just buy rebuilts from their franchiser. The techs usually don’t get into them to find out what’s wrong. They just remove and replace.

Q: How to replace a radiator hose on 2000 Ford Taurus?
My radiator hose split on my 2000 Ford Taurus. My husband can get to the top connection but is having trouble getting to the bottom connection. Any ideas?

A: Which hose are you referring to? Is it the upper rad hose or lower rad hose? What engine does it have, the 3.0L OHV V6 or 3.0L DOHC 24-valve V6? The hose clamps on this particular car use a “squeeze-clamp” type hose clamps which can be difficult to remove, if the hose is in a difficult to access area. For this job, a special tool like the one pictured in the link below will greatly reduce the time required to service the hose clamps. Hope this helps.

Q: What is the cost of a Ford Taurus Heater core in NY state?
Ford Taurus heater has been having probs in the winter. It gets below zero and it blows warm air, then cold air. Does it pay to just replace the heater core? If the heater core is replaced will the heat work better, or should I not bother? What is the cost of a Ford Heater Core for NY state? How many hours does it take to replace the heater core?
I maintain my car, and bring it to a Ford dealership. The last time they looked at it, one Ford Dealership told me I need a new heater core, the second Ford place told me they can clean it, and see. Well they cleaned it out, and flushed it, charged me a little over $125, that was last Nov. In the summer they checked all my fluids, and said it was fine. I don’t know if I should just let them replace it, or what, since it is labor costlly, but better be safe than sorry. They estimated it about $650,plus tax, is this a lot?

A: Always look at cheapest / easiest first when repairing! heater core- basically a small radiator inside your care, behind dash, behind componets, should work, (or it leaks or it is plugged.) Since you have heat sometimes, tells me it works. Like others have said, check antifreeze level in radiator, thermostat (which opens to allow for hot coolant to circulate into radiator.) When was last coolant flush? If 3+ years, have that done with thermostat replacement. $100 or so. Can save your car’s aluminum head. Also, maybe your car’s radiator fan is coming on, sucking ultra cold air into your radiator, therefore cooling the hot coolant used to heat your car? Some people put a small piece of cardboard on front of radiator in ME. to help radiator keep heat.

Q: Is there anything different about fixing a 95 ford taurus sho starter?
Im working on my mom’s ‘95 ford taurus sho and was wondering if there is anything different im supposed to do when working on this than normal? Is there something Im supposed to do with the shim?

A: 1)Remove battery ground to avoid shorting

2)Raise the front of vehicle so there is enough space to work underneath the front of the engine.

3)Locate the starter from the underside of the car. It is near the transmission, underneath the exhaust manifold, between the engine block and the radiator.

4)Locate the two bolts holding the starter to the engine at oposite positions 2 and 7 o’clock approximately, viewed from the left side of car. The upper bolt is actually a stud with two metric sized nuts a 13mm (deep dish socket required)and a 15mm. The lower bolt requires a metric size 13mm socket
The bolts are threaded into the starter from the transmission side of the engine
First remove the size 15mm nut on the upper bolt (2 o clock position) this will allow removal of the gound strap from the engine along with the wire harness support.

5)Loosen the bottom bolt(metric size 13mm) but do not remove completely
Using the deep size 13mm socket remove the upper bolt
Next, remove the lower bolt. The starter should still be supported in its cradle at this stage but as a precaution support it by hand while you remove the lower bolt.

6)Pry the starter loose from its mounting
Lower it between the cross member and the engine – a little maneuvering is required
When you have lowered it remove the lead(s)

There are some differences as is the case with fixing a starter in other car models.

Q: How do I replace my stereo in my 2003 Ford Taurus with electronic climate controls?
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus Wagon. The Stereo is acting up in hot weather. Whenever it is really hot the speakers distort with a digital sound effect that really sucks.

I have looked into it and because I have electronic climate controls, there is no aftermarket replacement dash kits to put in an aftermarket stereo. Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do?

A: you can not replace the radio there is no kit
for that application

My remote unlock on my Ford Taurus stopped working so I tried to replace the battery twice with brand new battery and it still doesn’t work. How else can I troubleshoot this to see why my remote doesn’t work.

A: what year taurus? might just be able to reprogram your remote. i know in an 04 or later, you just toggle the ignition switch between setting 2 and 3 eight times, when the locks cycle themselves, press a button on the remote, and you’re done.

Q: with regard to ford taurus, What is the major marketing decision Ford face and why is it so important?
1)Define Fords Taurus(newly launched vehicle by ford) marketing research problem based on the management decision problem?

A: The Taurus nameplate is from a generation of buyers that know the name. The 500 and Montego are early 60’s and 70″s names that the current generation of buyer has never heard of. This is the reason for the change.
