A: Well it looks a bit clunky, meaning it looks like they made it look bigger than it needs to be for what it does, but no I wouldn’t say it looks ugly. It does have a terrible reputation for interior wind noise, and highway noise inside because of cheap and cut back interior insulation. The dash also suffers form what seems like gooey and chewy plastics not nice to the touch, and the cloth seating really is very bad and cheap. The leather is nice but then Toyota charges you way more for that. Overall most people are not pleased with the bumpy ride because of the big tires they put on it. You heard it here….because you will never hear it straight from Toyota. Good luck.

A: You didn’t mention the asking price. I’m sure you’ve checked the blue book. As for the vehicle, it’s the best damn vehicle I ever bought. It’s got the 4.0L straight six. That engine has been around for over 50 years (carburated in the old days). It’s essentially the same as the old Chevy six.

As for performance, if my front tires touched it before my bumper, that car would climb it. I chased elk thru the Rockies with my Wagoneer.

BTW, I still have my ‘89 Wagoneer. It’s beat up, but it runs like new. It’s got over 300,000 miles and I’d still drive it to the west coast (I have several times) from N Y.

Buy it and enjoy. And don’t be afraid to do the back woods.

When you put the key in the clicks slow down and when you tyurn it over they stop – then the clicking comes form the engine area. It is a constant clicking sound which when occurs the car is not operable – but only occurs occasionally. Recently it has been more and more frequent. Anyone else expereince this? If so what did you do? HELP!!

A: sounds like a relay going. it obviously controlls something, try isolating it and unplugging it to se what then doen’t work, or check with a wiring diagram to see what it controlls

A: There are alot of upgrades on a limited. I have a computer that gives temp,direction and MPG. Some really nice aluminum cast wheels and all power accesories. Heated Mirrors and front seats are heated, auto dimmer and the list goes on. If you like that kind of stuff get it, if you don’t, don’t. They both have the same drive train.

A: While I am not familiar with the dashboard controls of the Jeep, I CAN tell you how to get an owners manual.

The good news is:
Jeep has an owner resource website from which you can download FREE owners manuals

The bad news is:
The FREE ones only go back to the 2004 model year.

BUT, you can order older model year (1995-2003) books from the same site.

If i were you, I would order the 2002 manuals (you will probably want/need it anyway, right?) but I would also take advantage of the free download ….
I am sure that the location/operation of the fog-lamp switch didn’t change much between ‘02 and ‘04 …so download the ‘04 manual . That will get you the info you need quickly.

A: The SRT8 Grand Cherokee is AWD, not 4WD. There is no lockable 4WD mode. If all you are doing it city driving, you should have no trouble.

It does have very large, wide tires that will push the snow instead of cut thru it, but I dont think you are buying this vehicle to really drive it in mud or snow, are you.

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the issue that I am having is with starting the car. Lately it isn’t getting power consistently when I try to start it. I put the key in the ignitiona nd the dash doesn’t light up and the fuse box in the car and under the hood start clicking. The dash lights will flicker and the starter wont even click. Sometimes we can get it working by pushing the shifter forward (making sure it is in park) of by puching the brake down. The dash lights up then and the car starts fine. You can drive it around and runs like normal but go and shut of the engine and I could have the issue again or it may start normal.What do yu think is wrong?

A: Check you relay, either your auto shut down relay or starter and possibly the fuel pump relay. if you have to stomp down on the brake pedal it could also be the neutral safety switch located on the transmission. also check you shifter linkage, it may not be going into park fully thats why you have to play with the shifter.

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will start fine but like 2 seconds later turns off. I had the problem like a day before and i gave it like 10 minutes and it started right up but the next day i wasn’t so lucky. Now it will start but wont stay cranked and its been like 3 days. What should i do?

A: Try changing the fuel filter first, It’s located inside of the the frame rail back by the driver’s rear tire. If that doesn’t help then you might be looking at a fuel pump, before you replace that though, you should check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail port on the engine, it should be around 40psi or so.

A: You have to make sure that the vehicle really does come with Navigation because ALL Muranos come standard with a 7″ screen. If it is all orange L.E.D’s, then you DONT have Navigation.

If you have a color screen, then you might possibly have a new Murano with or without Navigation.

The only way to tell if you have Navigation is whenever you start the vehicle up, if there is a Warning “Do not operate Navigation while Driving”…..then yes you have Navigation. And should have a MAP button. Press that or DEST to enter in your destination.

From the sound of things, i really doubt you have the Navigation but rather just the standard 7″ screen that displays Navigation. If you figure you really have the Navi, type another question and ill go further with this.

A: I am also looking at a Journey. It appears to be a very practical vehicles, presently the pricing on it made me consider purchasing one. It was either the Journey or the Volvo XC60. However the price of the fully loaded Journey AWD RT is 5k less than the Volvo.
I feel the quality of the Volvo is better, the T6 is more power full and fuel efficient. And the Volvo seems slightly larger.
The Dodge however has all those little storage bins, 7 seats, and 5k less with all the options. It is a tough decision. I am relying upon the Dodge relations ship in the Journeys design with it’s once partner MB. the 3.5L and 6 spd trany are MD designs and hopefully the QC is still there.
But as far as bang for the buck I do not see where you can get more.

A: Sara, you have two options. Sell it or trade it in.

The tough part will be getting past the negative equity gap. The first thing you need to do is determine the wholesale value of the car. You already have your loan payoff amount. Do some online research and figure out what the car is worth. The difference between what it’s worth and what you owe is the amount of money you’ll need to come up with to get out from under the car. If you don’t have a lot of cash you wont be able to make this work.

1) It is not available as an add on, since most who purchase this vehicle would not add on seats they would purchase vehicle with that option.
2) The seats would have to be built out of pieces(ie seat back, seat botton, seat frame, ect), and the cost would not be too expensive. Like close to $1000.00
3) The vehicle is too new to obtain seats from a crashed, or totalled vehicle
4) Seats are only offered as pieces, because for warranty purposes you would never need entire assemblies

A: This is a new vehicle still under warranty. It should not smoke, despite what some others think. I have had numerous new vehicles and have never had an issue like you describe. The dealership needs to fix the problem. There is a possibility that what you see is condensation which would be normal but it would be best to have it checked at your dealer. That way if they say it is ok and something does happen, you will have it on the vehicle’s service record.

A: It’s just a big FWD car – it’ll be decent, but if it’s a concern, the best solution is to put four winter tires on it. I have an Accord and I have four Hankook snows mounted on rims – it works very well in the snow. And because I have them mounted – changing them is a snap, I do it myself.

Remember – AWD does not help you stop, only go – and people generally get in accidents because they can’t stop. Winter tires make a huge difference. Go to tirerack.com or tires.com. They’ll cost less than the AWD would have been, and you’ll get more life from the standard tires since they won’t be on as much, which will offset a large portion of the cost.

A: Beautiful crossover, no? No they do not have paddles, but there is a manual shift mode on the standard 6 speed transmission for the Enclave, the design is actually pretty unique it is a +/- button on the gear lever. No other vehicle I’ve seen has that design.

A: I have a 2008 Buick enclave FWD and it is better than any car I have ever driven- and working for Motor Trend, I have driven a LOT of vehicles.
GM decided to take its first whack at a luxury crossover back when I was studying the internals of the organization for my dissertation. The Board of Directors directed that something be throw together as quickly and as cheaply as possible. Following orders, the product development organization created the Buick Rendezvous by relying heavily on the corporation’s minivan platform.

As is usually the case when fast and cheap are the top priorities, the Rendezvous wasn’t very good. It looked ungainly, it was slow, and the chassis didn’t excel at ride or handling. It did sell fairly well, but only because the post-incentive price was low.

For 2008, Buick has replaced the Rendezvous with the Enclave. This time around, GM has put the priority on creating a best-in-segment product. Have they succeeded? I took an Enclave for a test drive to find out. I would have preferred to test a loaded leather-trimmed all-wheel-drive CXL, but the initial production run appears to be composed almost entirely of the front-wheel-drive cloth-upholstered CX. So that’s what I drove.

A: I’ve had mine for a month now. Never thought I’d buy an american car due to reliability (traded in my BMW for it, still have a Lexus), but I’m really loving it! Here are my Pros and Cons.

Pros -
1. Car feels well built – good crash safety ratings (5 star), doors are solid.
2. Roomy interior – I have the 2nd row buckets, which fold up with the pull of a lever for roomy access to 3rd row. Real 3rd row as well, not like most SUVs. Great, comfortable leather bucket seats
3. Technology-laden – I was suprised, this car has auto-articulating headlamps that swivel according to the turn of your steering wheel (one of the best inventions ever!). Usually only available in very high end cars. Panasonic DVD with wireless head phones. Perhaps the best navigation system out there. Far easier to use than ones in Lexus and Mercedes. Rear view camera. Power liftgate and everything else. 5.1 Dolby digital Bose surround sound system. Feels like a movie theater in the back. Has a regular 110V outlet . Remote engine start for those hot or cold days. These guys thought of everything.
4. Onstar – includes 1 year premium service. Get your diagnostic reports on your car by email monthly. How cool is that?
5. Great looks – Gets alot of looks on the road and in the parking lot. Very sporty appearance. Interior design is nice too. Very Lexus. It was inspired by private jet interiors, and that was my very first impression. Feels like sitting in first class.
6. Decently sporty drive. Handles better than my parent’s Lexus SUV
7. Big 19″ wheels with michelin tires

Cons -
1. ? reliability – The GMC Acadia and Saturn outlook are built on the same platform and have average reliability according to consumer reports, which isn’t so bad. But it has a good warranty 4 years, 50K bumper to bumper and 5 years on the engine, transmission.
2. Wish it had auto shutting doors, cause the doors are heavy, and sometimes requires a really good shove to close. What do you expect for $40K?
3. A few cheap looking parts in the interior, mixed in with the wood trim. You really don’t notice it until you look real close though.
4. Gas guzzler – Been getting around 16-18 miles per gallon in the city. Maybe 20 on the highway. At least it takes regular unleaded.
5. Very heavy car – could use a bigger engine, but then then you’d sacrifice even more mileage.

Overall, I think you’d be happy with the Enclave, cause I definitely am!

A: Its pretty close to the same quality as the Honda/Toyota, though the Accent doesn’t compete with the Civic/Corolla, Hyundai’s Elantra does. The Elantra is rated higher then those 2. The reason Hyundai’s lose value faster then Honda/Toyota is based on previous history and reputation. Hyundai’s were subpar quality until the mid-90’s and only average quality until about 2001, they’ve since moved into the top 10 out of the 36 brands sold in America. The value of the Accent like all small cars has gone up in the last year with the rise in gas prices. As you’ve found out, that same 2005 Accent cost about the same as a 2002 Civic that has many more miles on it. Take advantage of this value while you can as Hyundai values continue to rise each year.

Okay I found the drain, and I notice a small dribble of water coming out of it. What is the best way to unclog the drain? It’s hard to get to from the top or bottom of the car.

A: the drain should be on the passenger side of the firewall with a little rubber hose connected to it so it drains downwards

A: It comes with a manual electronic trans, that’s what the M is for you can “manually” shift the car in what ever gear you want or just leave it in D and let the car do the work. So yes it DOES come with a manual trans, It DOES NOT come with a stick shift. Kind of a stupid feature, but I think the engineers need to find a way to keep their jobs

A: I would expect them to start a rebate on 2010 models towards mid to end summer when they will want to move old stock out in favor of 2011 models. You may see an early spring rebate too. People like to buy cars in the spring.

They look about the same in price, size, and basic style. The GMC might have more standard features. But Ford quality might be better overall.

A: Definitely the Ford Escape. We have a 2001 Escape. Got it a year ago with 80,000 on it and have had no problems. Regular maintainence only. 20 mpg intown , all wheel drive v6.
GM has quality issues and has had for many years now.
Sure the Terrain is all new.Same old crappy engineering and crappy GM spec’ed parts .
Quality and reliability – go with Ford.

A: if your friend is rich, then by all means, yes it is okay to get…cause your friend can get into accidents, insurance will fix it and even when her insurance goes up, she can afford to pay it…Gas, maintenance, and insurance will be expensive for an inexperienced driver. But if your friend is barely making ends meet, I would not advise it, as she will be struggling for awhile.

It is a nice, fast car. Tap the gas a little goes a long way for this car.

I leased an Infiniti G35 4 door 2 years ago. The dealership has placed over size wheels and tires on the car. The rim is Ace Brand and it’s 20 inch rims. Basically long story short when 4 passengers are sitting in the car the rear fenders are scrapping the tire and creating sparks due to friction. A: W210 is the term used to describe the chassis number on all E-Class models made from 1996-2002. on the dash board of my car at blank red light came on in between the SRS light and the Check Engine light…..what is this blank red light that came on??? my car is running fine

A: The instrument clusters for these cars are manufactured in funny way – even if they are lacking some specific warning light (because the associated system is not present in the car) they were coming with full set of bulbs and red or yellow foil in front of these.

Now, it seems that the car tried to display a warning light for a system that was originally not installed in the factory.

The most obvious reason for this could be malfunction in the instrument cluster itself; however, there are few situations where interfering onboard system (like, ABS and emissions control system) could make the “nonexistent” light come on.

Try to have the car diagnosed with aid of Mercedes diagnosis tool, with special care taken about the ASR/ASD (if present) and engine control unit. This might give a hint where the problem is.

If there is no apparent reason for light coming on, the bulb under the blank red panel can be safely
removed – this might be more economical approach to replacing the whole instrument cluster.

A: Most likely it’s the relay. They get build up on the contacts and then it sticks.
Try tapping on it to see if the fan shuts off. Or see if there is another relay in there that is EXACTLY the same and temporarily swap them to see if that helps.
If none of that works see if the fan stays on when the relay is removed. If so we need to dig deeper.

A: It may fit, as the two are on very similar platforms, made in the same factory.

Your best bet is to measure your Avenger carefully, and ask dealers/manufacturers if the Eclipse bar will fit. Alternately, find a dealer with one in stock, and measure it your self. If it is a decent dealer, they will let you take the bar over to your car to eye-ball it before purchasing.

A: Dodge Avenger is a cool car for the years produced. I wouldn’t do the four banger though, not enough power for the weight of the car. Find a six, and it’ll be a good car. Depending on price of course. You should be able to get them cheap though.

A: This is not covered under warranty so the dealer will charge you to have the car towed in and repaired. Warranties cover defects in materials and workmanship on the vehicle, not the actions of mentally defective friends.

Check to see if the starter relay is connected. That would be the most common way to disable the starter.

The other choice is to pay to have it towed in and repaired, and to sue your friend for the bill.
