Q: bmw 3 series?
is the bmw 3 series for girls? i’ve heard that if a guy drove in one it wouldn’t look right. if not what model would be good for a guy
A: I am 6′2″ and the only problem I had driving a 3 Series was the fact that no one could sit behind me.
If you are tall the 5 series is a better way to go, but look at it this way, the 325 and the 525 have the same engine, but the 3 is smaller and lighter… which one do you think is faster?
Chick car? Nah, just a BMW hater that can’t afford one.
Q: BMW 3 Series?
Is a used BMW 3 Series, like from 1991-2002, a good, dependable first car? how are they on insurance? reliability? THANKS!
thanks, but what model comes with the straight 6?
A: Early BMW’s are great, they have good engines and aren’t that complicated to work on. the later ones have a lot of electronic control units and I’ve changed a few of these at great cost.
91-95 are more reliable than the later versions, even the alternator is computer controlled on the late ones.
The Insurance may be high due to the fact they are sporty and in some cases considered prestige cars.
Most BMW’s give good fuel economy considering the size of the car.
Service history is a must because it shows the previous owner has looked after it properly.
The straight 6 engine is far better than the 4cyl.
All BMW’s after 316/318 are 6cyl So you have the choice of 320-323-325-328 M3 The last of these is a bit of a beast and will really cost on everything, I wouldn’t say the M3 is a starter car.

Q: BMW 3 series?
Does anyone know if they are changing the 4 door sedan of the BMW 3 Series soon? Please tell me how you know as well as when the model is changing…i want to know if I’m gonna buy the car.
A: Not until 2011.
The new BMW 3 series design just came out in 2006. It is way to early to redesign the car again.
For 2009, they will change the front bumper a little bit, but it looks exactly the same.
Q: bmw 3 series?
I would like to buy a bmw 3 series no coupes or convertibles, I’m willing to pay between $5500 -$6000(is going to be my first car), so my question is how many miles should the car have and what is a good year for the car?? I was hoping nothing under 94, I’ve also found out that bmws are very expensive to maintain but hopefully I won’t have to waste too much money into my future car, how much will I pay for an average transmission problem ?? how about other minor problems??
If you have a 3 series or had experiences with any major problems or minor problems please advice me if I should get one of these cars?
A: I’m a huge BMW fan, but seriously, for a cheap first car and that kind of price range they are not ideal. Buy something cheap and economical. Something that is cheap to insure and fix if it goes wrong. If you can’t afford over $10K for a car, how are you going to pay for expensive repairs when you need to do them?
Drive for a few years, build a reputation with your insurance company, build your credit, and one day buy a nice BMW. But for now I’d set your sights a little lower.
Q: How can you tell a 1995 BMW M3 from a regular 3 series?
I am stationed in Baumholder germany and am about to purchase a 1995 3 series BMW. He said it was a 316i, but the title book is in german, and there are no badges noting the model. It has M series aluminum rims, spoiler, and other tell-tell signs it might not be a reg 3 series. Sorry if i sound ignorant, but i have little experince with beamers.
A: Sounds like the car was optioned with model-designation delete and the M-package, though these could be after-market changes. Either way, this setup will look great and deliver high MPG’s, but isn’t going to be nearly as fast as it looks.
By the way: If you’re planning to ship this car home at the end of your tour, make sure it will pass import regulations; for instance, the 1.6 engine wasn’t imported to the US, which might cause problems with emissions certification, and parts availability.
Q: Can i change my 2002 BMW 3 series convertible, roof from manual to electric?
I bought a 3 series BMW convertible. I wanted one with an electric roof. But I got me deal, I couldn’t let pass.There’s one downside to this,the roof is manual. Can i change it to electric?
Thank you for your response.
A: Yes, but for the price of $1000-2500.

A: Yes, the 3 series used a timing chain during those model years. Check this link to find out why. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M43

Q: Is a BMW 3 series a good first car for a new driver and what are insurance rates like?
I am 16 years old, and will be getting my license in September. My uncles and my dad want to get me a 2001 BMW 3 series ( probably a 328i). My mom disagrees and says I should get a 1996 civic. I prefer the 3 series. She says maintainence and insurance will be sky high… I just want something nice.
I am a safe driver and straight A student… I hope that would help with rates.
A: There are several ways that you can consider.Call your local agent or do the online quote yourself.Take which way,it depends on your time and knowledge.
Q: How do you take the roof down on a bmw 3 series convertible 2004?
My boyfriend just got a bmw 3 series convertible 2004 reg as a company car. It didn’t come with a manual and we cant figure out how to take the roof down. Please help.
Does the car need to be switched off?
A: i have a 2003 3 series convertible.
idk what the 1st guy to comment is talking about LOL
i just push and hold a button and it goes down.
the button is located right under the cig lighter
closesst to the drive and above the shifter
Q: What are the differences between the different bmw 3 series?
Im 19 looking to buy a car and im looking at the 1992-1998 generation of the bmw 3 series but there are so many i was just wondering the differences
A: The “i” stands for injected, and they are all inline 6 cylinder engines, not V6s. BMW no longer uses any 4 cylinder engines in USA. So stick with 323 and up (6 cylinders).
Here is a list of the letters, not all apply to 3-series.
The system of letters is as follows:
* d = diesel
* i = fuel-injected
* x = all wheel drive (xDrive)
* L = long wheel base
* C = coupe (no longer used)
* T = touring (wagon/estate)
* t = hatchback
* g = biogas
* s = sport package (Sports seats in the front, spoiler on the rear, improved gearbox, custom rims)
* si= sports injection (the new range of x5, x3 and z4 engines)
* e = eta (essentially “economy” in English)
* es = eta sport
Q: Why is the compact version of bmw 3 series much more cheaper than the normal 3 series ?
On a search on mobile.de for bmw 3 series up to 2004, 90% of the returns are compact versions. What makes these cars cheaper than the normal versions ?
If I would have known I would not have asked the question … right ?
A: ^^^He said it all, they are underpowered too. Never buy a 323i, that thing is a MESS. They also use hubcaps on the 323i lol.
Q: I am moving to Spain from the US. Can anyone let me know how much will a BMW 3 series cost in Spain?
I am wondering if it is cheaper to take the car from the US to Spain. Once I factor in the customs duty and shipment maybe its not worth it. But wanted to get an idea of whats the price of a 3 series BMW in spain with Taxes.
A: A BMW in Europe costs 10-15% more than one in the USA. A BMW in Germany is more expensive than a BMW from the USA. Figure out the customs duty to find out which is better. You can check BMW UK to get approximate pricing or if you adventurous enough check the BMW Spain and Germany sites.
USA BMW cheaper, how? TAXES!!!! There is a 19% tax in Germany.
$50,000 car in USA is $47,000 car in Germany.
50,000 * 1.05 (5% tax) = $52,500 USA
47,000 * 1.19 (19% tax) = $55,930 Germany
Q: Is the BMW 3 Series really unreliable and expensive to maintain?What would you like to ask?
It seems there are lots of dissatisfied BMW 3 series owners (going by comments on various consumer reviews). Is there any statistic showing the ratio of dissatisfied versus satisfied owners in the USA? My thinking is that consumers with horrific experiences are twice more likely to vent their frustrations via various feedback/review systems than satisfied customers echoing their positive experiences via the same medium. I’m interested in buying a 2002-06 BMW 325 or 330.
A: They are some of the most reliable German cars.
But they are just average.
Not as good as Japanese cars.
Better than some American cars and better than British cars/Italian cars.
As good as Korean cars and some American cars.
Q: What is the life span of a BMW 3 series transmission?
The transmission on my 2002 honda civic with 90k miles blew out despite getting the fluid replaced every 30k miles..
If i buy a bmw 3 series how many miles does the transmission last as in general its life span?
hopefully more then 90k!! No more hondas for me!
A: Well my 1989 E30 325ix has +200K miles on the engine (the odometer broke a year ago, I don’t know how many miles). Its on the Orginal Automatic trans, which is a 4 speed.
The straight 6 2.5L engine in my car has been around forever, and is bullet proof. I’ve seen them easily make 300,000 miles, and have no doubt mine will as well. It still rev’s easily and if you floor the trans and hit that kick down button, it has no problem getting close to redline.
But, the gasket that seals the trans, has started to drip, and I have to check it to make sure it its full for a road trip, but I just drove my car across the country and there is no problems with the engine or the trans. The suspension and the all-wheel drive need parts replaced, but there all OEM and 200K miles, you would think a shock might need to be replaced……..
Of course, most cars will last a long time as long as they are maintained properly. If some one rode the clutch or floored it everyday, you might see some issues.
But for the most part BMW’s are over engineered. Honda makes some nice cars, but if you enjoy to drive your car, you’ll probably like driving a BMW over all the other brands…. There just amazing….
BMW still uses the same Engine in my car in the new ones, its that well engineered, and it easily can take a turbo or a supercharger even in the old form…..
The transmissions, BMW seems to have excellent trans, and if you get one, I’d recommend a stick shift, all thought the Auto’s are very nice, I just enjoy have more control and stick shift gives that to you.
I’ve driven Mercedes, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Pontiac , Honda, Toyota, Scion and BMW. Out of all of those Mercedes and BMW are my favorite, and out those, the BMW is my favorite for looks and driving, the Mercedes is just plain comfortable, and a good cruiser.
The rest just didn’t have the same feel of the German rides. The Germans do it best IMO. There’s just an higher price tag, but in the long run these cars last for ever, and are fun to drive while they age.
